stupid laptop

I can't get on the internet with my laptop! It keeps saying that the network cable is unplugged. I've checked everything. I cant think of what else to do to see why it is not recognizing the cable. SBC has the DSL line working property, but no luck! I'm so frustrated. Does anyone have ideas?

Give this a shot: WinSockFix - right click the link to save as and save it to your desktop. You can transfer it to your laptop by either burning a cd with the file or with a flash/thumb drive. Transfer the file to your laptop, and move it to the desktop. At this point, go ahead and reboot, and during the splash screen for the computer (not Windows, it'll be the screen before the Windows splash screen), press F8 to go into Safe Mode. Once the computer loads in safe mode, go ahead and run winsockfix.exe which should be on the desktop. The program resets some settings that might have gotten changed inadvertantly (just through running the computer, spyware, etc). The program will then literally beep and say it needs to restart. Let it restart, and it *should* work for you. :) If it doesn't, let me know and I'll keep thinking! Good luck :)
